I'm able to pull up the new login url without any problems, but after I enter my user name and password I am directed to a 404 page. If I click the back button, I'm taken to the backend of my site like there were no problems. Is there a way to make it load the backend of the site immediately after entering my user name and pass or will I be forced to use the back button after each login to access the administrative pages?

I think so you have session problems so it is redirected to 404 page after logged in. Can you please check the session path?
